Best Organic Food Brands – Products at Costco

Why I Shop at Costco for the Best Organic Food Brands

Grocery prices are steadily rising.  It is very difficult to feed a family on a budget, especially if you are trying to buy healthier options. We cannot afford to buy all organic products, but I do focus on buying whole, real-food ingredients to feed my family.

How I Budget $800 a Month for Groceries and Household Necessities

Our budget for groceries and household necessities is around $800 a month. Household necessities include items such as laundry detergent, cleaners, toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, supplements, facewash, and makeup. Basically, it’s the category for anything we need to buy at a grocery store.

Which Organic Groceries I Prioritize (and Why Glyphosate Matters)

I prioritize buying organic for the following foods: corn, sugar, beans, oats, and wheat. The conventional versions of these foods have the highest percentages of glyphosate.  I try to avoid glyphosate as much as possible for human nutrition. I’ve also been buying certified gluten free oats, the One degree brand at Costco. This is what the back of the bag says, ingredients: gluten-free oats (sprouted, organic).

Using the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen Lists to Shop Smarter

Also, I try to follow the Environmental Working Group recommendations for the dirty dozen and clean fifteen. For instance, strawberries, blueberries, and apples always seem to be on the dirty dozen list, so I try to buy the organic produce for those fruits. Frozen organic strawberries and blueberries are a good price at Costco.

However, if I find a good sale on non-organic produce, I will buy it. Eating non-organic fresh produce is still better for you than eating potato chips and snack cakes. Also, buying local food like fruits and vegetables at farmers markets is a good option.

Why I’m Slowly Transitioning to Organic Meat and Dairy

I’ve been slowly changing over to organic meat. The animals are raised with organic practices and are not given antibiotics. Costco has one of the best organic food brands when it comes to eggs. Their organic eggs are only $7.99 for a whole flat! This is a much lower price than you will find at any other grocery story.

I do not regularly buy organic milk. However, I make sure to buy full-fat dairy. Manufactures add chemicals in order to make dairy low- fat, and I want to avoid those! Costco has the best price I’ve seen on organic milk.

How Costco Makes It Easier to Buy Organic on a Budget

One of the ways I accomplish buying mostly organic food and staying in budget is by shopping at Costco.  We just had a Costco built in our area last year. It has been a game changer in being able to buy organic groceries because they have some of the best organic food brands that are also affordable. Shopping here makes it much easier to meal plan.

Organic frozen blueberries were $8.69 for 3 lbs. Fresh blueberries are great, but the organic frozen ones are so much cheaper. These are a great addition to a smoothie or to muffin batter.

Buns, Tortillas Section

Organic tortillas (on the bottom of this pic) were a great buy at $5.39 for 38 tortillas. I can make my own, but it is nice to have tortillas in the freezer for a quick taco dinner on a busy night.

Dave’s Killer White Bread Done Right was $7.99 for 2 loaves. I enjoy making my own bread, but I like having store-bought organic bread on hand too. I primarily use this bread for packed lunches.

Heat Sides, Proteins, Deli, Salsa Section

Organic guacamole was $13.99 for 39 ounces.

Mixers, Sports Section

Thought not an organic product, Liquid IV was on sale for $20.99 for 30 sticks.

Other items I picked up without taking a picture.

Final Thoughts: Best Organic Food Brands – Products at Costco

By prioritizing certain organic groceries, shopping sales, and taking advantage of bulk-buy options at places like Costco, I’ve learned to balance our grocery shopping list without sacrificing nutrition because Costco has some of the best organic food brands that are affordable.
